PROJECT IN BRIEF

The Project is co-financed by UNDP/GEF and some Ministries, Sectors and Agencies. The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) is the Executing Agency and the Department of Science and Technology in all economic sectors is the implementing agency.

The Project consists of six component programs which are designed and implemented to address in a holistic fashion the barriers to widespread utilization of energy efficient management practices, operations and technologies in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the following sectors: brick manufacturing, ceramic and pottery, paper and paper pulp, textile and garment, and food processing.

PROJECT DURATION

Ø      From 2006 to 2010.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

Ø      Reduction of 10-15% of energy cost in production cost of SMEs involved;

Ø      Collective energy savings of 136 KTOE.

Ø      Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction of 962.0 ktonnes of CO2;

PROJECT TARGET

Ø      The Project targets its activities in SMEs in the five industrial sectors, namely:

-         Brick manufacturing

-         Ceramic and Pottery

-         Textile and Garment

-         Paper and paper pulp

-         Food processing

Ø      EC&EE service providers

Ø      EC&EE management agencies and policy development agencies.

 
BENEFITS OF SMEs INVOLVED IN PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

 Ø      Free training courses for building capacity in management and implementation of EC&EE activities are provided;

Ø      Advises on EC&EE measures are provided;

Ø      Partially financed for energy auditing;

Ø      To be guaranteed to access bank loans for EC&EE investments;

Ø      Shall be regularly provided with information related to technology, experience and solutions for EC&EE measures in operation and produciton;

Ø      Improved prestige and trademark;

Ø      Saved energy cost, reduced production cost and increased competitiveness.

Ø      Increased productivity and quality of products.

CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE PROJECT

Ø      Registered business enterprises (SMEs) having registered capital maximum up to VND 30 billion or average maximum annual employees of 500 people.

Ø      Operated in the five set forth sectors: brick manufacturing,  ceramic and pottery, paper and paper pulp, textile & garment and food processing;

Ø      Located in the following provinces/cities: Ha Noi, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Can Tho provinces.

For other locations: the Project is willing to provide information and sharing experience.
